0900hrs we start our tour in the inner city of Paramaribo with a visit to the ancient building complex, Fort Zeelandia. You will have an extensive guided tour from our guide. We continue the trip by foot and visit the Independence Square surrounded by historical buildings including the Presidential Palace, the Palm Gardens and Lim a Po Street, one of the most beautiful streets in Paramaribo. After this walk, we drive along the most prominent historical buildings with their unique architecture. We will make a stop at the Synagogue and Mosque that are right next to each other and shares a parking lot. Our next stop will be the Cathedral. This is the highest wooden building in the Western Hemisphere. Our City Tour ends at the Waterkant along the Suriname River, the favorite meeting place in Paramaribo for many Surinamese.

Lunch will be served at a local restaurant.

We continue our tour to Commewijne which is situated right across the river from Paramaribo. The tour takes you along the former colonial plantations, most of which are now abandoned and have become residential areas. The plantation Peperpot is located in the Commewijne district, on the right bank of the Suriname River. We make a stop at the former plantation for a visit of the premises and the workers living area called a Kampong. We also visit the recently installed nature park at the plantation, famous for bird life and small rainforest animals, such as monkeys. After Peperpot our next stop will be a visit to the outdoor museum at Fort Nieuw Amsterdam. Fort Nieuw Amsterdam is situated in a strategically very important location: on the precise meeting point of the Commewijne and the Suriname River, close to the ocean. The large fortress was built by the British as a defense for the plantations that were situated along the upper parts of both rivers. The fortress was originally an earthwork construction. It has the shape of a polygon (5 equal sides) and features 5 bastions. At the outdoor museum, we see several restored buildings, including the gunpowder storage building from 1740 and the coach house with a few coaches dating from the 19th century. In one of the ponds is the famous giant water lily, Victoria Amazonica.

Today we’ll begin our journey from Paramaribo, via the indigenous village, Powakka, to Jodensavanne. A historic settlement of the Portuguese Jews, a large Jewish settlement arose on Jodensavanne. The first synagogue of the “New World” was built here. There a no remains present of this wooden building. The Portuguese Jews took their knowledge and expertise to Suriname and set up sugar plantations. From the English authorities, they received privileges; they were thus left with the freedom to practice their religious rituals and customs, and they had their own jurisdiction. Those privileges were later ratified by the Dutch. The first stone synagogue in Suriname, Beracha Ve Salom (Blessing & Peace), was built in 1685. You can still see the foundations of this synagogue.

A picnic lunch will be provided at Jodensavanne.

0930hrs pick up in Paramaribo and transfer to Marienburg where you will board a boat to Plantage Resort Frederiksdorp.

On arrival at the resort get settled, then enjoy a guided walk on the estate, including the history and the Story Museum.

Lunch will be served at 1300hrs.

1400hrs head out on the Bonitrail tour which is a walk in the forest. This exhibition along the trail is about the freedom fighter Boni with different perspectives on slavery.

1600hrs depart by boat for a Dolphin Spotting tour where you can see pink belly dolphins in the estuary of the Commewijne River.

Dinner is served at the pool side. Overnight at Frederiksdorp. BLD

Morning at leisure to explore the surroundings, or just relax in the pool.

Have lunch then prepare for departure.

Pick up in Paramaribo and transfer to Zorg en Hoop Airport.

Board scheduled flight from Zorg en hoop in Suriname to land at Eugene F. Correia International Airport, Guyana. (Departure 0730hrs local time, arrival 0745hrs local time)

Pick up from the airport and transfer to Georgetown and across the Demerara Harbour Bridge to Roed-en-Rust.

A packed breakfast will be provided.

0900hrs depart by boat from Roed en Rust to For Zealandia and the Court of Policy on Fort Island for an educational tour of our rich Dutch heritage.

Reboard the boat and continue the journey to visit the ruins of Fort Kyk-over-Al, which is located at the confluence of the Essequibo, Mazaruni and Cuyuni Rivers.

After your tour we continue our journey to Baganara Island Resort.

Baganara is a rainforest resort located five miles from Bartica in the Essequibo River. This 187 acre private island effortlessly blends the comforts of a scenic retreat with all the fun of an elegant, full service resort.

Thomas Island is one of the earlier names for the Island, historically linked to a British Lieutenant.

In 1989, the Correia family acquired the Island and renamed it to its original name Baganara an indigenous word. By 1994 the famous Baganara Façade was taking shape, visitors would marvel at the transformation of a wild jungle to a serene paradise.

In 1995, construction of an airstrip and a manager’s facility was underway. The facility and the island were used as the venue for numerous training seminars and management retreats.

In 1996 the Island was transformed into an Island Resort Facility.

On arrival at the Island, you will be greeted and briefed by your host after which you will be assigned to your room.

It is completely untouched, and you may also see the tiny golden rocket frog and the amazing brilliantly orange Cock-Of-The-Rock bird.

0830hrs pick up and transfer to Georgetown. This morning, the tour will take you through Georgetown, the capital city of Guyana, also known as the “Garden City”. The breathtaking architecture of centuries gone by will surely provide scenic views, which will be etched in your memory for a long, long time.

You’ll be escorted by one of our experienced tour guides to see many places of interest within Georgetown, such as a drive-by of Stabroek Market, which is also called “Big Market” by the locals because it sells everything under the sun, a visit of the St. George’s Cathedral which is the tallest wooden church in the world, the National Museum, Walter Roth Museum of Anthropology, the famous, and very uniquely Guyanese, “Sea Walls”, the National Park to see the West Indian Manatees, and the Botanical Gardens.
